How becoming MLNPstars helped ignite our entrepreneurial spark

By MakeLoveNotPornstars wanderandlust.
It perhaps goes without mentioning that porn is many things to many people, if you’d told me a year ago that it would serve a galvanizing effect for myself and the love of my life to re-shape how we thought about collaborating on the loose-footed life of our dreams, I would surely have scoffed and demanded a great deal more follow-up information. I imagine you’re currently doing the same, so please do read on.
Both Keia and I are yoga instructors here in Canada, and being an independent contractor at multiple studios might be best described as an inspiring, emotionally rewarding grind, but a grind nonetheless. Sequencing five hours of classes a day in a sweltering hot room means you also spend a lot of downtime resting and restoring yourself, or risk burning out. Even those lucky enough to make ends meet exclusively teaching asana without another job usually only last a handful of years doing so.
We were bandying about a few different little projects that could allow us to share the wisdom we had gathered in the wider, yoga-adjacent circles of hippiedom (herbalism, tarot, primal living, etc) to fashion some kind of online presence. We had no idea where to begin. In terms of wanting to spread the good word about conscious living, I had been fascinated years ago with a Norwegian collective called Fuck for Forests, which was a crowd content sourced #realworldsex and performance art site, with (clearly) a deep green ecological disposition. I mentioned it to Keia one night, and the possibility of something similar perhaps having arisen in the years since. By the next morning she had google stumbled upon MLNP 🙂
We were instantly smitten with the way in which the plethora of offerings on the site were all so individual, really representative of the gorgeous variance of lifestyles and passions that makes up the world around us. In terms of contributing, it turned out that in the words of either (depending on where you look) Youtube star Ronnie Coleman, or Pulitzer nominee Maya Angelou, ‘Aint Nothin To It But To Do it.’
This became our credo for creating both sexy, and other, content all the way forward to now. We dig sharing the particular kind of luminosity with which we see the world, and to do so takes a certain kind of dedication to fashion it into something we’re proud of. Some of our videos have been gloriously off the cuff (given that we now know it was the theme of an MLNP edition back in the day, it’s funny how much love we’ve incidentally made #inthekitchen), others we have scouted locations, waited for good natural lighting, and found cinematic angles to truly capture how much we enjoy folding energetically into one another.
And this curation, this planning and coordinating and tagging and uploading and doing the damn thing, has strengthened our bond and more deeply infused our love just as much as the ecstatic licking, nibbling, moaning, and orgasmic undulating itself!
Thus empowered, we’ve since started our own little herbal company, Telluric Tonics, making raw chocolate and MCT oil infused coffee enhancers, that we now vend at yoga studios and farmers markets. Having a small business with your life paramour offers a host of its own rewards and challenges.
We still get to chuckle from time to time that one of the first and best ways in which we honed our communication and collaboration skills was figuring out which rocky outcropping to hump upon to best let the camera capture both our eros and the waterfall backdrop of north Maui!
And though we never had any specific gain in heart or mind when we first started contributing our videos, the outpouring of support from the MLNP community has really opened us up to the idea that being ourselves and sharing what we love has worth, however one measures it. 100% of our revenue from the site will soon become the down payment on a caravan trailer, which over the coming year we will be converting into a tiny home, and wandering out west, toward the lushness of coastal BC.
If you’ve read this far, thanks for sharing in our journey. We were inspired by others who took the leap, and we would be honored to pay that forward. Grab a camera and show your world to the world, you never know what paths will make themselves available once you do.
Congrats on your new company, wanderandlust!
